It's been a month now since I was made an Honorary Citizen of Salamis, Greece, in recognition of my book, The Battle of Salamis: The Naval Encounter that Saved Greece -- and Western Civilization (Simon & Schuster, 2004). I still feel fortunate, grateful, and just a little amazed. This book has received a lot of attention, from reviews to book clubs to foreign translations to being named one of the best books of the year by the Washington Post. Still, the recognition from the place where it all started is in a class of its own.
Salamina, sas efkharistw!
